E-bikes are heavy and Seattle is steep. That combination cooks brake pads. These have a ceramic barrier layer between the friction material and the backing plate, which keeps heat out of the caliper and keeps your brakes from going soft halfway down the hill.
Made in Oregon by Kool-Stop, who have been doing this longer than most of us have been riding.
